We had a 1 week sailing trip with Tin (booked extra as skipper), in a group of 5 persons (4 adults, 1 teenager). Tin is an experienced sailor who knows very well the area around Pirovac, and can show you many nice spots in the Zadar County, Kornati Nationalpark, etc. The Karlo Veliki is well equipped and well kept, it offers the standard comfort level for this segment. It has two manual toilets and even a small shower inside. The kitchen has enough items for the preparation of regular meals. For some extra money you can add a SUP board and very good snorkeling equipment to your booking (we suggest to request it, there are beautiful spots to use it out there!). However, there are a few things you have to be aware of if you want to book this sailing boat with skipper: 1 - Communication: As some of the previous reviewers, we experienced some misunderstandings in the communication in English with Tin. Very often we were not able to understand his instructions or intentions, especially during some maneuvers. 2 - Liability: Before the trip starts, I strongly recommend to speak clearly with Tin about your and his responsibilities and liabilities when operating the boat or parts of it, as well as regarding the use and management of the deposit. 3 - Good to know: The skippers, as known, are part of the crew and the costs for their drinks, groceries and food (also at a restaurant) are covered by the person chartering the boat. Fine. Be aware that Tin won't hesitate to order the most expensive item from the menu if he fancies it, even if it's a portion suggested for two people including starters, sides, etc. And don't expect him to ask if it's ok, nor a "thank you" at the end. On the boat, he would help himself with everything (no issues with that) but he won't bother neither to clean afterwards, nor put into the sink his plate after eating, nor put back into the fridge things he used, nor remove all the cups he uses during the day, etc. (and if he wakes up earlier than you, be prepared for loud phone calls on the deck, lots of noise while he prepares his coffee, etc.). If you're ok with these points or take the necessary actions, you will have a great time with Tin and he will show you wonderful places, including some less touristic spots!
Fully reccomend. Tin is very local and therefore very client oriented owner and skipper. :-)
We (family of 4) had a great week with Tin. The boat was nice and Tin showed us beautiful places that made the vacation memorable for everyone. Make sure you communicate well with him about your preferences and wishes and what you’d like to do; then you’ll have a great time.
We were satisfied with all aspects. Thank you Tin!
Communication with Tin was fine - he responded at all times. He handed over the boat clean. The sailing boat is an old lady with a few quirks, but you can get along well with her. We had a nice trip with no problems. Gladly again :-)
We had a great day out, owner of the boat managed to book us in last minute and was very accommodating. Captain was pleasant.
Thank you very much Tin for this amazing week !
We had an amazing trip departing and returning to Biograd. It's a little further away than split, so for those wanting more time in and around Split and the islands, it would be better recommendable to book a boat from Split. This will avoid a big sail on day 1 and day 7. We had 8 people on board. We would say 8 is the maximum on this boat if you want to be comfortable. The skipper (Tin) slept in the living room. Tin was very accommodating and listened well to our wishes. We were on a budget, so he helped us understand where the places were that did not cost a fortune. He also recommended renting a scooter on Vis, which was one of our highlights and we loved it! (250 kuna per scooter for 6 hours) Our trip would have been perfect if the communication was better. This definitely needs to be improved! Few things to note when booking: 1. Clear communication required in regards to parking (make sure to arrange the day before otherwise the spots are full when you arrive) and departure time. (we left 3 hours later than expected due to the boat coming in late). 2. Clear communication required regarding the food of the skipper. The skipper will take any breakfast / lunch / beers from the fridge and sometimes you can be left without, so buy extra and explain this well to him what is for him. (count on approx 7 to 8 beers extra a day and he likes meat. ) He's very flexible food-wise, and will eat anything. When going out for dinner, you are expected to take him and pay for his meal and drinks. 3. Communication about mooring fees and national parks. Ask beforehand how much the mooring will be. You can also anchor for free, but twice a week the boat will need charging and filling up with water, so you will need to pay the mooring fee. Vis was 580Kuna, and Hvar 930kuna. Big expenses. 4. Communication about the boat and safety would need to be improved.. The boat is older, and comes with a few defects such as doors locked (two of us were locked up in the bathroom), clogged sinks, and smelly toilets. We had a little bit of experience on a boat, but it would have been nice to be explained where to find things such as shower pump, and a little warning to put clothes (we lost) inside before going to bed (we didn't know we would leave early) - would have been great. Overall, we had a good experience. I think if you book this boat, make sure to clearly communicate the above points, and also look up a few blogs / itineraries / routes of where YOU want to go, and discuss these together with Tin. He's a good sailor, (impeccable in parking boats), and once you talk to him (even about frustrations) he will listen. He just does not initiate this himself and takes no charge.
