Charter a catamaran in the British Virgin Islands with Nautal

The British Virgin Islands (BVI) are a British Overseas Territory located in the Caribbean, just east of Puerto Rico. The gorgeous archipelago is made up of around 60 islands, cays and islets, with the four main islands being Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Anegada and Jost Van Dyke. A catamaran rental is one of the best ways to get to know the BVI because it allows you to island hop and discover some of the best beaches in the world. Moreover, a catamaran has a multi-hull system that is open and airy, making it great for large groups or people that tend to get seasick. You will experience what is known as “flat sailing” for a comfortable and safe journey. Whether you are more interested in a relaxing holiday filled with unwinding and sunbathing or an action-packed adventure with snorkelling and sailing, the BVI have it all.

How much does it cost to rent a catamaran in the BVI?

Various factors can influence the overall price of a catamaran charter in the BVI such as the size, the model, the duration of the trip and the seasonality. For example, the average price of a catamaran rental in the BVI for 12 people is around €9,160 per week during the high season and €6,410 per week during the low season.

What is the best time to visit the BVI?

The BVI have a tropical climate, making it a warm place all year round. This being said, there are two different seasons: the dry and wet seasons. The dry season, from January to June, is slightly cooler than the wet season but is much more desirable for a catamaran rental. This is because the wet season, between June and November, has higher levels of precipitation and chances of hurricanes.

Overall, the best time to visit the British Virgin Islands will depend on your personal preferences and what you hope to do during your trip. If you want to avoid the crowds and the hottest temperatures, you may want to visit during the shoulder seasons (April-May and November-December). However, even during the peak season, you can always escape the crowds with your catamaran and set sail into the waters.

Should I rent a catamaran with or without a skipper?

As you browse through all the available catamarans on Nautal, you will find that many come with the option to hire a skipper. If you desire a luxurious and comfortable boating holiday, then we highly suggest that you choose to have a skipper on board with you. For example, a professional skipper will be able to handle all the sailing, docking and anchoring of the catamaran. This means that you won’t need to worry about having any nautical experience or knowledge and still have a great boating holiday. Moreover, a skipper will be familiar with the islands and the Caribbean Sea around the BVI, so they will be sure to show you the very best spots. Finally, the skipper can ensure that you have a safe and comfortable journey, making sure to prioritise your wishes, making for a totally customised and unique experience.

What to do in the BVI?

As soon as you set sail on your catamaran charter in the BVI, you will realise that the world is your oyster as you discover the beauty of the island group. As you can imagine, with over 60 islands to choose from, there is so much to see and do on your catamaran rental in the British Virgin Islands. In fact, deciding what to do and where to go can become quite a daunting task. For this reason, we have compiled a list of our favourite things to do in the BVI.

Tortola

This is the largest island within the archipelago, also home to the capital city, Road Town. One of the most popular beaches that you can visit here is Smuggler’s Cove. This little slice of paradise has crystal clear waters and is a great place to sit back and soak up the Caribbean sun. Another popular beach is Cane Garden Bay. In contrast to the relaxing atmosphere of Smuggler’s Cove, this beach has a lively vibe thanks to its variety of bars and restaurants. If you are travelling with a larger group, we suggest you visit at least one of these beaches as they have plenty of space to enjoy!

Virgin Gorda

Home to the famous Baths, Virgin Gorda is another must-see in the BVI. The Baths are a series of pools and grottoes formed by huge granite boulders that are over 70 million years old. These aquamarine pools sure are a sight for sore eyes. The island also has a mountainous landscape on the north side, making it a great place for hikers. We suggest hiking during the evening so you can see the beautiful sunset and a wonderful panoramic view of the island.

Anegada

This island is a flat coral island known for its impressive biodiversity. If you are a fan of snorkelling, then Anegada needs to be on your list of visits! One of the most popular destinations to snorkel around the island is the Horseshoe Reef which extends over 63 kilometres of different corals. Here, you will be able to see a kaleidoscope of colours reflected in the corals, sponges and fish species! You can also visit the Flamingo Pond to witness the magnificent native flamingo population.

Jost Van Dyke

This island is the smallest of the four main BVI. However, don’t let its size fool you, as there is still so much to discover on Jost Van Dyke! If you are looking to unwind on your holiday, then take your catamaran rental here and navigate around some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. With the soft silky sands and long hours of sunshine, you can’t go wrong here. One of the most popular beaches is White Bay Beach thanks to its tranquil waters. Alternatively, you can visit other beaches such as Sapphire Beach, Cinnamon Bay and Bubbly Pool.
