July and August are the hottest summer months with temperatures averaging from 25°C to 30°C (77-86°F). In recent years, the Mediterranean heatwaves have toppled these averages. 

The wind tends to blow in a north-westerly direction, ranging between 5-20 knots (6-23 mph/9.7-37 kmph). In the afternoons it can occasionally exceed the average.

When is the best time to go to Dubrovnik?

The high season in Dubrovnik typically lasts from late June until August, when the summer festivals usually occur.  While it’s true that the weather is almost always better in Dubrovnik in this time period, there are also lots of tourists.  This leads to overcrowding on the beaches and higher boat prices.  This is why we suggest going in the shoulder season, from April to early June and during the months of September and October.  The weather will still be pleasant in these time periods and ideal for sailing, but there will also be fewer tourists, meaning you can find better deals on boats.

Travel Tips for Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik’s very own airport (DBV) is just 20 km (12.4 miles) away from the city centre. As this city has no trains, you will need to take a taxi or bus from the airport to your boat rental and there are regular bus shuttles operated by Atlas.  Currently, you can get direct flights from other cities in Croatia, as well as many other European countries.  A few of these include Germany, France, the Netherlands, Norway, Austria, Russia, Switzerland, and many cities across the UK, including London.  You can also get direct flights from New York in the USA.
