The Dalmatian Coast is one of the most attractive sailing destinations with an extensive coastline and gorgeous seaside towns as well as many exotic islands within easy reach. Sailing the crystalline clear Adriatic Sea with your family and/or friends is the perfect way to explore Croatia’s enchanting towns, secluded coves and rich culture and cuisine. Sailboat rentals in Split are ideal for island hopping routes and also longer charters to other Croatian regions, as this Eastern European country boasts up to 2,000 km of mainland coastline.
The price of renting a sailboat in Split in high season can range from $755 per week to $29475 per week. In low season, it ranges from $742 per week to $25888 per week. These prices generally depend on the size of the boat you want to charter and the number of people.
It is possible to rent a sailboat in Split with or without a skipper. If you want to sail through the Adriatic sea but aren’t a very experienced sailor and don’t want to worry about the technicalities, renting a boat with a skipper could be a very good option to allow you to fully enjoy your trip.
Split sailboat rental without a skipper also has its perks though, the main one of which is freedom. If you rent a sailboat in Split without a skipper, you are free to sail the Adriatic coastline at your leisure, stopping where you please. You will need a valid boating license if you want to bareboat charter, however.
The best time to rent a sailboat in Split depends on what sort of holiday you’re after. The sailing season in Croatia runs from April to mid-October as it is during these months that the weather is best. Even within this time period, though, the weather can vary, so it’s a good idea to keep checking the weather forecast both before setting off and throughout your trip.
If you’re planning your sailing holiday to Split, there are a few things that you should consider regarding when you want to go. June, July and August are the peak season for sailing in Croatia, bringing lots of crowds in search of the summer sun. Naturally, with the summer temperatures, the water is at its most pleasant for swimming and snorkelling and the wind is also low.
April and May are generally considered to be pre-sailing season in Croatia, with strong winds and longer days. The sea in these two months can also be quite cold, so if you want to swim while there, this may not be the best time to go.
September and October, on the other hand, are the low season for sailboat rental, Split, and as such, there will be fewer crowds in these months, even though the sea temperature remains pleasant for swimming and snorkelling. The winds are also steady. This means that in spite of the shorter days, these months may be ideal for your sailing vacation in Split if you want a quiet holiday, away from the crowds that the summer months tend to bring.
You can rent a sailing boat in many places surrounding Split. Here is a list of areas:

Sunny days in summer average 25°C to 30°C and the Adriatic Sea heats up to a nice 22°C+ making snorkelling and scuba diving pleasant aquatic activities.
Spring and autumn are also great times for sailing, albeit with cooler temperatures, but fewer crowds!
Wind levels are mainly steady and calm in the summertime, although we advise that you remain tuned in to the forecast, as occasionally the afternoons have stronger winds.
If you are island hopping, spend your days sailing from secluded coves to spectacular beach stretches. Stop to snorkel or have lunch in a quiet creek or navigate to an uninhabited island. Hvar is a vibrant island full of bars and clubs. Take a short climb up to the fortress at the top of the island for an incredible view of the luscious green islands.
Split is notoriously popular and for good reason. Walk the ancient white stone walls as you shop in the town centre. Pick an extravagant square for dinner or eat along the harbourside and indulge in some Croatian cuisine. Cave tours operate during the summer and you can organise watersport activities as well.
If you venture into the heart of the inner city of Split, just a stone’s throw away from the port of Split, you can also see all of the most important historical buildings in the area, including Saint Domnius Cathedral the palace of the Roman Emperor Diocletian, one of the most famous cultural sites on the Croatian Adriatic coast. Next to this palace, you can find the Green Market, which is perfect for purchasing many things, from clothing and souvenirs, to fruit and vegetables if you’re feeling a little peckish.
If you’re a fan of Game of Thrones, you may even want to travel a little further inland to see the impressive Klis fortress, which featured in the popular series.
Trogir is a charming seaside town with plenty on the cards. Shop through its market stalls for precious stones and gems or visit during the town’s annual music festival to listen to some classical Croatian folk.
Šibenik is not far and another beautiful city to visit during your holiday along the Adriatic Coast. You might also consider renting a sailing boat in Šibenik and start your trip there!
Split Airport (SPU) is the local airport of the region, just 5 km from Trogir, and 25 km from Split. Bus shuttle services run regularly, but be sure to check in accordance with your flight arrival and departure times if there are available services, just in case.
